Piazza – Hyde Park

Kings Landscapes No Comments

Project Title: Piazza, Hyde Park, London

Contract Value: £453,000

Client: Hines UK

Landscape Architect:  Wilson McWilliam Studio

Winner of Bali Award 2009

This consisted of the  transformation of a  tarmac car park and rubble wasteland into a contemporary landscaped piazza for a commercial office development.  The project was carried out in two phases – an eight week programme in 2009 and 10 week programme in 2010/2011.

All tarmac and concrete was removed from site by hard dig. Kings Landscapes then supplied, installed and contoured topsoil to the site. An extensive drainage system was laid and a large area paved for a central sitting area, main entrance and connecting pathways.

Other hard landscaping included the installation of trellis, granite benches by crane, bespoke steel edging to beds, aggregate pathways, extensive paving areas,  irrigation and lighting systems.

Kings installed perennial beds and turfing. We also planted 12nr 6m tall Betula utilis ‘Doorenbos’ by crane into large designer pots.

8nr Tilia x euchlora 35-40cm girth and 37nr Betula Pendula 30-35cm girth trees were planted in linear strips within tree pits during the second phase.
